Like Truman Burbank, we are perfectly comfortable living life as it is — not knowing something far better awaits.  The entire life of the star of the Truman Show movie, is  televised, and he is the only person in the world that doesn’t know the joke is on him.  All the people around him are paid actors. Fake parents. Fake wife. Fake best friend. Fake co-workers.  His entire life is a lie.

Hi producer, who calls himself Creator, makes the statement, “We all accept the reality that we are presented.”  Truman certainly did.  Do you?  The prince of this world despises God and despises the human race.  He makes every effort to keep us from knowing the goodness of God.  Everything in the world system is designed to keep us away from knowing the truth — God is crazy about you.

God knew you before your were born (Jeremiah 1:5).  God made  you wonderful (Psalm 139:13).  You are the apple of God’s eye (Psalm 17:8). You are of great worth to God (Luke 12:7)

Once you experience God’s loving presence through the life of Jesus Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit, nothing else will ever satisfy.  It’s like our one-year-old grandson.  He likes me as long as his mom is in the room.  But when he notices momma is out of the room.  He knows, I have nothing that will satisfy him. Our grandson desires his momma’s presence because he knows she is the only one who can truly satisfy him.  God says he will open his hand and satisfy the needs of every living thing (Psalm 145:16).

As Truman Burbank discovers there is a reality beyond his soundstage life, his Creator begs him to stay.  But Truman simply exits his old life through a door in the painted set sky, leaving what he knows behind.  Like Truman, we have a door we can walk through to discover the life and love than truly satisfies — God through the person of Jesus Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit — a reality beyond our current situation. In Revelation 3:20 Jesus says, “Here I am!  I stand at the door and knock.  If anyone hears my voice and opens the door.  I will come in and eat with that person and they with me.”  A satisfying relationship with God.
